In Memoriam - Shari Farber Tritt

It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of a member of the DMRF family, Shari Farber Tritt. Shari and her husband Ira touched the hearts of millions through the dystonia documentary film, TWISTED several years ago. For those of us who knew her, Shari was an inspiration every day. Although dystonia took much from her, she never let it defeat her. Shari had a love of life, an infectious laughter, a devotion to her family and the courage she demonstrated was a source of strength for so many in our community. Shari died on Saturday after a tragic accident in their swimming pool. She will be missed by many. Our sympathies go out to Ira, her parents, Harriett and Joel, and her sister Beth.

  1. My heatfelt sympathies to her family and friends. Shari was my inspiration when I saw her in the documentary TWISTED. TWISTED helped so many people living with Dystonia. She gave me the hope that I could have a full life and to feel proud of myself living with Dystonia. I'm sad at her passing.

    With sympathy,

  2. Shari,
I have known you since I was twelve years old, when I became friends with Beth. This is the saddest commentary that I have ever had to write, but I have always been so proud of the person that you are and you have become. I will always remember you and will miss you forever.
    Love,
    Sheryl Jans

I only knew Shari through seeing her in "Twisted," but her joy in life was infectious, and her joy while living with dystonia was inspirational. I am deeply saddened by her loss, and the loss that all those who loved her must be feeling. It sounds as though, even to the end she was playing in the water and doing what she loved. I am so thankful we all had her in our lives.

In 1947, I met a young, happy-go-lucky boy with the name Joel Farber, We went through high school together. We never lost sight of each other through the years. I had the pleasure of meeting Joel wife, and their 2 daughters. I remember with fond memories the times Shari and I would spend together laughing and enjoying life. This young woman's ordeals can not truly be expressed in words as she was the light of hope and love. It is a great loss to all who knew and loved and admired Shari. Our loss is heaven's gain. R.I.P., dear, sweet Shari.

  6. There really are no words that can describe the tremendous courage that Shari always showed to the world. Yes, a true inspiration to all who's lives she touched---so many she did not know personally.

My heart and prayers go to Harriett, Joel and Beth for such a terrible loss in their lives and all of the years they stood behind Shari in her fight for a full life.

This family's committment to the Dystonia Community has helped all of us.

I am so incredibly sorry for your loss.

I first met Shari at a dystonia conference with Laurel Chiten, the director of Twisted, when we were first looking for subjects of the film. We immediately honed in on Shari, because she had such joie de viere and such a great personality. And as Laurel and I began to edit the film, Shari and Ira's story really became the heart of the film.

Shari was a bright light, and an inspiration to us all.

  27. Dear Ira, Harriet, Joel & Beth,
I "met" Shari & Ira & the family through the movie Twisted, which shone such a positive educational beam of light into the world of dystonia. Shari's infectious spirit, great laugh, and zest for living life to the fullest extent she was able was absolutely awe inspiring. I know you love and miss her on a deep family level, but those of us in the Dystonia community feel like we have lost a dear, courageous friend & strong advocate for our disorder. May she be dancing with God now. Love & prayers, Carol Flynn, Dystonia/ST Support Group, Fairfield, CA
